== Current status: Call for locations ==
Check out the [https://hackerbeach.org/hacker-beach-5-mantas-dragons/ official announcement on hackerbeach.org].

As every year, we're in the process of finding and deciding upon a location for January 2017. This year, for the first time, we also have this dedicated wiki for collecting data and notes.
== Location: Flores, Indonesia ==

Locations are discussed on IRC from time to time, and whoever books the first flight makes it official. (Given that at least a few other people agreed on it, of course.)
We'll be gathering on the island of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flores Flores], in the South-Eastern part of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia Indonesia]. Hacker Central will be in and around [[Labuan Bajo]] on the West end of Flores, which is situated right next to the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_National_Park Komodo islands and national park].

Everyone (yes, that includes you) is invited to propose locations throughout the year, and until the very end. There's no voting process or deadline! Hence, it's not possible to predict when the location becomes official, but it's usually sometime between the middle of October and the end of November.
== Random Hints ==

== Rule #1: Plan to attend Hacker Beach in January! ==
* Check out Air Asia's [http://www.airasia.com/ot/en/book-with-us/asean-pass/overview.page Asean Pass], if you're interested in traveling around SE Asia before and/or after Hacker Beach. You can get up to 10 flights for $100 plus airport taxes!

We've told the same story about 100 times, so perhaps writing it down helps to prevent some people from repeating this mistake. Just because the location is not known until very late in the year, that doesn't mean Hacker Beach is uncertain to happen. Hacker Beach '''will''' happen, and it will happen '''in January''', all January, the same as the last 4 years! In fact, we have a 5-year anniversary coming up, so how could anyone miss that? ;)

So, put it in your calendar, tell your friends and family, take time off your job (if you can't work remotely), find a place for your pets, et cetera. If you really want to join us, you can! Just don't wait with the planning until there's a location. If you need time to plan ahead, there's nothing stopping you from starting planning ''right now''.
As an unorganized, informal gathering, there's nothing to register or RSVP for. However, it would be much appreciated if you entered some kind of name (ideally your IRC nick) in the following list, in case you plan to join us. You can also add a timeframe, so we know who to expect when.
